Eight new police officers sworn in today

The City of Bowling Green welcomes eight new officers following their graduation from the Bowling Green Law Enforcement Academy.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The City of Bowling Green welcomed eight new police officers to the department today following their graduation from the Bowling Green Law Enforcement Academy.

This is the third class to graduate from the City’s academy.

Officers Maddie Alexander, Ryan Butler, Brandon Hughes, Andrew Khai, Dawson McDaniel, Max Mueller, Cole Petty and Tyler Staten will now begin their 16-week field training with a police training officer. After successful completion of field training, they will be assigned a patrol shift.

Today's ceremony began with a procession from the police department to The Capitol Arts Center where each officer took the oath of office and had a family member pin their badge to their uniform for the first time.

Former BGPD chiefs Bill Waltrip and Doug Hawkins participated in the ceremony.

Officer Brandon Hughes is the fourth member of the Hughes family to join the department. He is the son of Detective Wade Hughes, the nephew of Major Josh Hughes and the brother of Advanced Police Officer Matt Hughes.
